BRL renews EDC partnership, enters Phase 3 of the Biodiversity Conservation and Monitoring Program

With the virtual signing of a new Memorandum of Agreement last February 3, 2021, the Biodiversity Conservation and Monitoring Program (BCMP) enters its third phase and expands its goals.

For the past decade, the Biodiversity Research Laboratory (BRL) of the Institute of Biology, University of the Philippines Diliman (UP IB) and the Energy Development Corporation (EDC) have partnered to conduct the BCMP in EDC-managed geothermal project sites all over the Philippines. This partnership will be seeing further expansion from 2021 to 2024 as the third phase of the BCMP will be implemented by UP IB-BRL in four geothermal energy project sites and one wind farm project site managed by EDC.

BCMP Phase 3 will consist of five component projects — Biodiversity Metrics, Flagship Species Initiative, Flora Conservation, Botanical Treasures, and the UPIB-EDC Biodiversity Hub. To learn more about the component projects of BCMP Phase 3, watch the MOA signing ceremony linked below:
