Job Posting: Database Manager

The Biodiversity Research Laboratory of the Institute of Biology, University of the Philippines Diliman is looking for a short-term Database Manager for its Palanan Permanent Forest Dynamics Plot. The work is output-based, can be completed remotely, and will last for a maximum of three (3) months in early 2021.


Monthly Salary: Php30,000/month (negotiable)


Minimum Requirements

1. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Sciences, Management Information Systems, Software Engineering, or related course (background in Biology or Ecology is preferable but not necessary)

2. Proficient in the SQL programming language

3. Focused and determined; able to handle large datasets and use critical thinking to work through complex database issues

4. Good oral and written communication skills (both English and Filipino); able to break down complicated technical jargon and confidently relay concerns, problems, and progress both to immediate supervisors and collaborators abroad


Tasks and Deliverables

1. Undergo orientation and training with the staff currently assigned to the database, to learn about basic ecological concepts (tree growth, mortality, etc.) and databasing protocol

2. Resolve persistent database issues

3. Communicate regularly with local and international collaborators

4. FINAL OUTPUTS: corrected dataset with all issues resolved, related datasheets to be used by other staff for upcoming fieldwork
